An Aiken fugitive who, along with two other individuals, reportedly robbed a wheelchair-bound man at a local hotel last month has been arrested in Houston County, Ga.
Few details were available on the man’s arrest, but Aiken Public Safety officials said they will extradite the 33-year-old man back from Georgia, where he was arrested Tuesday.
Aiken Public Safety investigators said Sherone Nealous, 33, Gerren Amiker, 25, and Debra Phillips, 24, of Warrenville, held up the man on May 17 at the Econo Lodge on Richland Avenue.
Nealous was out on a $155,000 bond when officials said he and the others robbed the victim at gunpoint.
Police said they believed Phillips bought shoes from the victim, Charles Cato, early Saturday afternoon and then returned to the hotel with Nealous and Amiker. When Cato receives a shipment of athletic gear, he often rents a hotel room and sends text messages to his customers.
He has a City business license and opens the door to the hotel room to sell shoes.
He was held up and much of the gear stolen, police said.
Phillips was arrested the following day and Amiker several days later, but Nealous has been at-large since, officials said.
In March, Nealous was one of four men arrested after investigators seized drugs valued at nearly $20,000 and cash in North Augusta.
During the arrest, investigators said Nealous took off running, making it to his mother’s neighboring residence. Deputies chased him and arrested him there.
He was charged with four counts of distribution of crack cocaine, four counts of distribution of crack cocaine within a half mile of a school, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute within a half mile of school, possession of a controlled substance schedule II, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within a half mile of school, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within a half mile of a school.
