Before Barack Obama and before Tiger Woods, the most insanely worshipped Black celebrity was Michael Jackson. Jackson was a dominant force in pop music for years. Jackson appeared at the right time for music videos where a combined singing and dancing routine was ideally suited.

Michael Jackson started performing with four of his brothers in the “Jackson Five” at age eight in 1966. The Jackson Five was a tremendously popular pop music group, with a number of hits, performing on the Ed Sullivan Show and other popular TV shows at the time.

Jackson went on to a solo career becoming one of the biggest pop icons of all time. His album Thriller is still the most sold album to this day.

Then, something started to go wrong with Michael Jackson’s mind. He started getting more and more and more cosmetic surgery. At first, the changes were relatively modest –a bigger chin and smaller nose. Then Jackson started bleaching his skin whiter and whiter. Some people have suggested that certain drugs used to break down melanin can also cause insanity.

Jackson appeared to have successfully made the transition from a child star to a pop icon. Many child stars find themselves unmarketable as they grow older or they develop drug addictions and start committing crimes.

Michael Jackson probably could have married any woman in the world. He could have married Whitney Houston, divorced her and then married Beyonce’. Instead he seemed to want to spend all his time with children —mostly young boys. At first people thought this may have been the result of his hijacked youth and hard-driving father. Then a child molestation accusation came out in 1993 by Jordan Chandler. One source notes “On January 1, 1994, Jackson settled with the Chandler family and their legal team out of court, in a civil lawsuit for $22 million. After the settlement Jordan Chandler refused to continue with Police criminal proceedings. Jackson was never charged, and the state closed its criminal investigation, citing lack of evidence.”

After this incident, Michael Jackson married Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley. They were divorced less than two years later. After the divorce was announced, a comic on Saturday Night Live remarked that apparently marrying a pedophile had turned out to be a bad idea. There were rumors that Presley agreed not to disclose details of Michael Jackson’s behavior, and there is strong speculation that the two were not sexually active despite their claims to the contrary. There were (not too surprisingly) no children from that marriage. Stories of drug abuse by Jackson came out about this time.

Jackson then had an alleged relationship with nurse Debbie Rowe. There is strong speculation that she was impregnated by invitro fertilization, which Jackson has denied. Rowe gave birth to two children, who appear not to have any physical resemblance to Jackson (before or after surgery).

Jackson’s third child, best known as Blanket, was born in 2002 to an unidentified (probably surrogate) mother who was artificially inseminated.

Jackson then appeared to go off the deep end, apparently taking drugs that bleached his skin to a pale shade of white. Jackson always denied taking any sort of skin bleaching drugs. What finally put a stake through his career was the second major pedophile case against him in 2005. One source notes “The alleged victim was a boy, Gavin Arvizo, referred to as ‘The Accuser’. Arvizo was 13 years old at the time of the alleged crimes. Michael Jackson was indicted for four counts of molesting a minor, four counts of intoxicating a minor, one count of abduction, and one count of conspiring to hold the boy and his family captive at his 2700-acre Neverland Ranch compound. He denied all counts and asserted that he himself was the victim of a failed extortion attempt. On June 13, 2005, the jury found Jackson not guilty on all charges.”

Most people however were convinced that there must be something to the child molestation charges and dismissed the “not guilty” verdict as the product of another crazy California jury. Jackson then went into seclusion and rumors spread that Jackson was increasingly financially strapped for cash. These rumors were confirmed when the Neverland Ranch was closed and eventually taken away from Jackson.

Jackson reportedly was hoping to make a comeback tour, but he suddenly died of a heart attack on June 25th, 2009. Despite the fact that most Americans believe Jackson to be a pedophile, he still had a substantial cult following in the US and a considerably larger following overseas.

The mainstream media and talk radio shows of all sorts have of course become obsessed with Michael Jackson’s death, and it seems the news of his demise will dominate the media for days if not weeks.
