Barack Obama is to push forward with a plan to offer citizenship to up to 12million immigrants living illegally in the United States.
Furious Republican opponents said the proposal was ‘disastrous’ at a time when so many Americans are losing their jobs.
They claimed it was ‘payback’ for Mr Obama’s Hispanic support in November’s presidential election and a means of guaranteeing votes in 2010.
The number of Latino voters in the U.S. nearly doubled from 5.9million in 2000 to more than 10million last year.
More than three-quarters of new immigrants voted for Mr Obama.
Latinos are by far the majority of illegal immigrants in the US, with most crossing the border from Mexico.
The president’s aides said yesterday that he plans to pursue his campaign pledge to reform immigration legislation by the end of his first year in office.
The administration wants to crack down on future illegal immigration, but allow those already in the U.S. to apply for citizenship – after paying a fine.
‘They broke the law and we can’t excuse that – but we can’t deport 12million people,’ Mr Obama said during the final days of his successful presidential campaign last year.
The White House insist the amnesty would not be an added burden on the U.S. workforce, but would simply recognise those illegal immigrants already working in the country.
However, Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said that it would be ‘politically disastrous’ for Mr Obama to go ahead with his amnesty plan.
Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA, a group that favours reduced immigration, said Mr Obama faces an ‘explosion’ if he presses forward with his plan this year.
‘It just doesn’t seem rational that any political leader would say, let’s give millions of foreign workers permanent access to US jobs when we have millions of Americans looking for jobs,’ Mr Beck told the New York Times.
Even members of the Democratic Party fear that any attempt at immigration reform could lead to a public backlash at a time when the president has his hands full trying to deal with the recession.
Cecilia Munoz, deputy assistant to the president, said Mr Obama is seeking ‘policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system.
‘He intends to start the debate this year,’ she added.
The president is expected to convene working groups over the summer comprising of lawmakers from both parties and a range of immigration groups to discuss possible legislation for as early as the autumn.

I was not born here and i am proud to say i am a Mexican. Being a Mexican is an honor. I did however, move to the USA when i was 6 months old. i was just a baby and my parents brought me and my brother so that we could have a better life. In fact, i started kindergarden here and i recently graduated from high school. I learned how to speak, read, and write English and Spanish at the same time. I am fluent in both. i do not see why i am being penalized for something that i did not have control of. i want to be legal, and yet, i cant.
The education system here encourages us all to try our best in everything we do and to become something of ourselves. When i graduated from high school, i knew what i wanted to be-an English teacher. When i went to college to apply, they told me that my tuition was to be $5000 MORE than that of a citizen or i could not attend. My family, although very happy, is not rich. I do not understand why i a brick wall was placed in front of me putting a stop to my goal-the same goal that people all throughout my life pushed me towards.
It upsets me how i, although not born but raised here, do not have any rights in the USA. None. Obama says he wants to help. I think that counts for more than any other person has done for us. My family and i, we pay taxes, we work hard, and we all try our best when it comes to education.

Thanks to you and patriots like you, like David versus Goliath, we, working with others, have been able to make a national issue over whether or not Barack Obama is a natural born U.S. citizen.
Yes, we have been smeared as “birthers” and “right-wing nuts.” But the fact is, thanks to our efforts, and those of our allies in this fight, more and more Americans are asking themselves the same questions we’ve been asking for months.
And those questions are: 1)”Why won’t Barack Obama produce his birth certificate?”; 2)”What is he afraid of?”; and 3)”What is he hiding?”
But, while we’ve been successful in educating millions of Americans on the serious questions swirling around Mr. Obama’s eligibility to be President, we’ve also earned the full wrath of the Obama machine.
And, while we have thus far been able to fend off the lies and the smears, we are now facing a do-or-die moment.
That moment will come at 8:30 AM on Monday, October 5.
That is the time that the United States District Court for the Central District of California, Southern Division, will hear a Department of Justice (DOJ) motion to dismiss a lawsuit that we’ve recently become a part of, demanding Barack Obama release records that could prove �- or disprove -� his U.S. citizenship.
You read that right! With very little warning, we have just learned that the DOJ (under the control of zionist jew Chertoff) has been granted a hearing that could result in this new case over Obama’s citizenship being thrown out of court! The DOJ’s motion claims that our clients have no “standing,” that the Federal Court does not have “jurisdiction” to hear this case, and that the matter is “political.”
But, if we as citizens of the United States have no “standing” to verify the citizenship of the man occupying the White House, who does? If our Federal Courts have no jurisdiction to hear this case, who does? It’s not a “political” question, it’s a CONSTITUTIONAL question!
I believe that we have a responsibility — no, A DUTY — to verify whether the man occupying the White House is eligible to serve as President!
I have thus dedicated this organization, and all of its resources, to do just that, both in the court of law and in the court of public opinion.
And, again, thanks to the support that we’ve received from patriots like you, we are making progress. With this new case, we have a Judge that has said, in open Court, that he wants this issue resolved on the merits! I pray that this means that the technical, procedural, arguments that the Obama legal team and its allies have used to thwart the legal actions that the United States Justice Foundation has brought, and has financed, so far, will not prevail.
In fact, the Obama Administration has brought in the Department of Justice (DOJ) to silence us and to shut down this lawsuit.
Well, we didn’t get here by laying down, and I have no intention of laying down now! But, I won’t lie to you. We are going to have to work nonstop, around the clock, to develop the research and legal strategy that we will need to counter the DOJ’s motion to dismiss.

denis i feel your pain sooo much. i am 19 years old i have been here since i was a year old i grad. high school last year. i cry almost every nigh because i have no money to go to college i would love to go and the sad part about it all is that i could have everything paid off even gas for my car because i get vised but the only dam reason y i cant get it is because i dnt have A ss# it was so sad to see them rip up my app. just because i didnt have the number. its so hard i cant wrk or drive i feel so hopeless because i really want to better my self its not my fault i wasn’t born here. i just feel that if u have been here for so long and want to really better your self then y not give us a chance to prove everyone that we can do it. and i too hope and pray that President Obama does something to help us because i would give anything to keep going to school and become a better person
ahhhh. this is a very complicated conversation…im an 18 year old guy. i am in high school. i pray every single night to be able to stay in USA, i love this place and only thing i want is just a social security number so i can go to college. im albanian and in my country i better not go back because i know im going to be living hell. i have been living in USA for 2-3 years and im alone i got nobody! I’m very lucky my cousin is here and he is an american citizen and he helps me out. keeps me at his house and takes me to school. i have and i will be praying every day and night to become legal american citizen one day. am samuel and i have being in this coubtry for a long time and i have experience that only illegal immigrant do all kind of fucking jobs and being controled by legal immigrant like slaves and i don,t think that makes sence or we should continue facing all this hard time for the rest of our lives. there a lot of works in this country but the white will never seek to do that kind of jobs as well.

I’m a legal US citizen, my mother came to this country to have a better life, she too is legal. About 14 years ago my aunt came to this country with her 3 children who were between the ages of 0 and 4. They grew up here, lived here there whole lives and applied for citizenship 10 years ago and the process is still going on. They know nothing else but this country so don’t say they are destroying american culture. besides we are more native to this continent than you white people are. And what started the united states but a mix of many different cultures? Now one of my cousins who just graduated from high school can’t go to college, she’s extremely bright and had over the years won over $50,000 in scholarships while in high school through competitions but she can’t use those either. She’s extremely bright and wants to become a Dr. but because the process has taken so long who knows if she will ever get to do this. I hope this passes because there are many people like her who have been here there whole lives, they don’t even know what the country they were born in was like. Also, it won’t take away from american jobs most immigrants already have jobs, in fact it might make it easier for the rest of the country to compete because minimum wage laws aren’t fallowed for illegals and if they became legal companies couldn’t just look for illegals to hire, the playing field would be more equal.

Joe, for some reason our government has annointed Mexican’s as the “chosen ones.” They don’t have to do things right. They can come here and has as many kids as the wish, we’re glad to pay for large families even though most American’s who have to pay for the birthing and raising of their children are more conservative in that respect. They read the papers, the Internet. Obama has given the signal that they won’t be prosecuted, they won’t be deported, they won’t have a criminal time imposed for stealing someone’s idenity, their chidlren will get free lunches at school and a good education. Our government is working hard at the Dream Act so they can get a really good college education and loans. The American people should not be as outraged at scavengers who do what well, what scavengers do, but rather the outrage and demands should be focused at the lame brained politicians and our President who seems to only be concered that he is a beloved citizen of the world.
Let Obama and the Democrats know if they don’t stop this insanity, it is the last term they will serve.

I am 62 years old and the government takes about 30% of what I make not to count any sales tax paid for purchases so I can hardly sympathize with paying 2, over and above what is taken out of your pay checks. Seems like your husband must be using someone else’s identity or a fabricated SS number if he is paying the taxes you say. See Lydia, things that begin wrong usually don’t end right. I am legally married to an illegal from Mexico. I pray to GOD every day that Obama will let my husband stay here with me. I am a USA born citizen. I am a US Citizen. Both my husband and I work and PAY taxes. WE NEVER GET A REFUND and we PAY almost $2,000 per year above what is already taken out of our checks. We have no children. We are both senior citizens. I will be retiring. I hope my husband can stay here with me. I hope we are not banished from the USA. I started the legalization process 5 years ago. The US government took over $1,000 of mine in fees, then I had to pay $5,000 for a lawyer. I am sure there are more expenses to come. So, anyone out there that thinks “illegals are getting a free ride”, better think again. Get ALL the FACTS before pointing fingers.
its not fair for people trying to do the immigration system properly im a uk citizen married to a us citizen we have a baby girl and i still cant go live there im starting the long process off trying to be with my wife and child legaly in america people like us should be getting help i have to wait up to a year to get green card,, i dont see why people who just cross the border should get off so lightly, and i thought the uk and us were supposed to be allies, you can go fight a war together but not be with your wife and child dont make sense to me ..
If he legalizes illegal immigrants, he will not get my vote next time. It’s ridiculous that we Americans are loosing our traditions, our language, our ways to accomodate all these people that don’t want to make an effort to learn how to speak English, don’t want to pay taxes and don’t know how to raise children. If we look at the statistics the majority of these illegal immigrants are living from the government. They DON’T PAY TAXES but get pay (because of their children that are citizens by birth). It’s unfair to the rest of us. President Obama is not thinking of us, he is just worry about his next election. If Mr. Obama keep this up, I hope he will not be in the White House after his first term.
