Wilkommen aus Rumaenien! Few people know that Romania was once a rich and prosperous country led by the German dynasty Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen from 1866 to 1946. It was all good until the communists took over in 1946 and hell break loose.
In 1940 Romania joined the Axis powers (Germany, Italy and Japan) in an effort to stop communism from spreading from Russia to other parts of the world but it was all in vain because the Axis powers lost the war and communism invaded not only Romania but all Eastern and Central European nations. When Romania saw that Germany was loosing the war, it quickly switched sides and fought with Americans and Soviets against its former ally, Germany.
Regardless, communism did came in 1946 and wrecked everything in this once beautiful country. It has demolished beautiful historical and cultural buildings and created ugly apartment buildings almost everywhere.
Most of today’s buildings from Romania are gray, bringing back sad memories of communist oppression. Romania has been turned into an ugly, corrupted, poor and Oriental country by the Communist regime and post-communist leftist regimes that came after.
Back in the monarchy days, under German rulership, Romania was one of the most powerful nations in Central-Eastern Europe competing with the likes of Hungary which was an empire only up until WW1 and Poland. Bucharest was called “Little Paris”, more popularly nicknamed “Paris of the East”, Timisoara was also called “Little Vienna”.
