Former presidential adviser Iulian Fota vehemently criticized recent statements made by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, which ignited a firestorm of controversy surrounding Romania’s national identity and sovereignty. Medvedev’s assertion that “Romanians are not a nation, but a way of life” on his VK page as reported by Tass, sparked outrage and condemnation from Fota and others.
During the broadcast, Fota denounced Medvedev’s remark as the gravest of insults, highlighting its implications for Romania’s sense of national pride and identity. He also took issue with comments made by Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who attempted to undermine Romania’s cultural heritage by saying “in fact, the Romanian language is the Moldovan language”, an assertion Fota viewed as a direct assault on Romania’s identity.
What Zakharova meant here is not that Romanian and Moldovan are the same, no, what she meant was that Moldovan should be the official name for the language and that the other Romanians from Wallachia and Transylvania stole the language from Moldova?! Through such a statement she only shows her ignorance and how historically handicapped she is, not knowing anything about the history of Romania, yet she goes out on TV and makes public statements about things she has no knowledge of.
Drawing parallels with Russia’s history of aggression towards neighboring nations, particularly Ukraine, Fota condemned the Kremlin’s attempts to dictate the identities and languages of other countries. He emphasized the importance of defending Romania’s national identity against such encroachments and called for unity in the face of external threats.
Furthermore, Fota warned of the potential ramifications of Medvedev’s statements on domestic politics in Romania, particularly for anti-European parties such as right-wing extremist AUR party that may have aligned themselves with Russian interests. He cautioned against the dangers of supporting entities that seek to undermine Romania’s standing in the international community.
He also said, on the other hand, that anti-European parties in Romania would have a problem following these statements. “This will have significant implications in domestic politics because we have extremist formations that envision a golden (AUR party which translates into English as “Gold”) future for Romania and, by attacking the West, argue that this will be good for Romania. These people now have a big problem because, by attacking the West, they are sending us into the arms of those who deny us as a people. Where is your patriotism when you advocate for those who are dismantling us as a people?” Fota said.
Medvedev said that Romania will not receive anything from Russia and that the resolution adopted by the European Parliament regarding the return of the treasure will have no effect in Moscow. “I have nothing to say in Russian, I can only send them… In short, go to hell,” he said referring to Romanians.
Prior to Medvedev’s attempts at deconstructing the Romanian culture, French president Macron warned just hours BEFORE Medvedev’s statements that “Romania is not a nation” that if Russia is allowed to conquer Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and Poland are next. This shows that Emmanuel Macron was right about Russia’s imperialist intentions.
Medvedev’s provocative rhetoric didn’t stop there. He also dismissed Romania’s claims to its national treasure, declaring that Romania would receive nothing from Russia and labeling European leaders as “idiots, weaklings, nobodies” for their efforts to advocate for the return of Romania’s gold. “It seemed that nothing could surprise us anymore. European leaders – idiots, weaklings, nobodies. But no, they have given us a reason again. They us want to return Romania’s gold! Various idiots from the European Parliament have rekindled their (Romania’s) appetite.” Medvedev said.
Fota condemned Medvedev’s derogatory remarks towards European leaders as inflammatory and divisive, noting that they only served to further escalate tensions between Russia and Romania.
Furthermore, Fota denounced Russia’s historical revisionism regarding Romania’s national treasure, pointing out the falsehoods propagated by Medvedev regarding Romania’s alleged debts to the Soviet Union. He emphasized the need to challenge such misinformation and defend Romania’s historical legacy.
Aside from that, using their own logic, when Lenin confiscated Romania’s gold, he refused to return it citing as a reason: “The Soviet Union doesn’t pay the debts of Russia which no longer exists. The Soviet Union didn’t receive any gold from Romania.” Lenin said. Well, using their own logic, Romania shouldn’t pay any debts to the Soviet Union that no longer exists. Now the USSR is back to being Russia again so ok, the USSR didn’t have debts towards Romania, but Russia does.
In conclusion, Fota underscored the importance of unity and vigilance in countering Russian aggression and preserving Romania’s national identity. He called on the Romanian people to stand firm against attempts to undermine their sovereignty and to uphold their rights as a sovereign nation.
Romanian ex-president explains the gigantic value of the gold reserve
Traian Băsescu: “But I would like to correct some things about what Romanians know about the treasure. This treasure had two components, one related to works of art, archival documents, historical documents, and church documents. It was the so-called, let’s say, by me, civil archive and the archive part of the National Bank of Romania, which meant Romania’s gold reserve, plus crown jewels. Romania’s gold reserve consists of 91.5 tons of fine gold in coins, mostly.
Why should it be specified that it’s about coins? Because the value is much higher than that of gold in ingots. They are coins with a history of 300, 400, 500 years, 100 years old, so they are old coins. That’s why the 91.5 tons of fine gold represent a value that is difficult to quantify at the moment, on a market where gold fluctuates.
Part of the cultural treasure – and I dare say – the largest part of the archival and church cultural treasure was returned in 1934 and 1956, plus other small objects that escaped Moscow’s grasp during this period, until today. So, today’s resolution primarily targets Romania’s gold reserve from the moment it was sent for safekeeping in Moscow. And not just anyhow.
There is a document by which the Tsarist government at the time of the handover guarantees the transportation, storage, and return of this treasure, including this gold reserve. Unfortunately, the Bolsheviks came after World War I and did not keep their word, although they also returned some art objects, as I was saying.”

I think that former dictator Ceausescu was right to make nukes. I strongly advise Romania to continue Ceausescu’s work and urgently develop nukes in secret. Ceausescu was publically against nuclear weapons though he had his own secret plans to make his country a nuclear power, like North Korea. Romania being so close to Russia and dare I add maybe a future risk even from Turkey as Erogan wishes to remake the Ottoman Empire, and I look at Orban who is a friend of Putin also salivating after Transylvania, Romania finds itself again encircled by bloodthirsty imperialists. You guys really need to make nukes! Lots of them. Dont worry about what the West will say, they will criticize you in the beginning but they will learn to live with it and accept you as a nuclear power and that’s it. Having nukes is the only way to make sure the Russians won’t show up at your door demanding things from you. My country doesn’t have nukes either but at least we invested heavily in conventional weapons and we are now top 3 strongest armies in Europe because we did not forget about Russia!! We did not forget what Russia did to us for many centuries and I again strongly advise Romania to also not forget what Russia did to you. Arm yourselves Romanian brothers because the Ruso-Mongols are coming for us! Love from Poland ❤
Poland thought that it had the strongest armed forces in Europe in 1939 until Poland provoked Germany once too often and was crushed in three weeks. If Poland continues to provoke Russia in the same way that Poland provoked Germany after the death of marshall Pilsudski don’t expect the USA or NATO to come running to Poland’s aid. The USA and NATO will trick Poland in the same way that Britain and France tricked Poland into believing that they would come to Poland’s aid if war broke out between garmany and Poland. Suckers.
Soon then: Romania was not a nation but a way of death…
