Renowned New York gynecologist Dr. Alan Berger, a political ally of Senator Ted Cruz, has entered self-quarantine amid concerns that he may have contracted the coronavirus, as reported by DailyMail.com. The 55-year-old physician, associated with NYU Langone Health, has volunteered to isolate himself, ceasing patient interactions in the process.
Dr. Berger, a prominent figure who has hosted fundraisers for Senator Cruz and is reportedly acquainted with President Trump’s in-laws, the Kushners, has sparked speculation about potentially being ‘patient zero’ after interacting with Cruz and Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, at the CPAC conference. Authorities have discreetly referred to him as “the patient,” “the man,” or “the attendee.”
Before attending CPAC, Dr. Berger was also present at AIPAC, where he shook hands with various U.S. politicians, senators, Vice President Mike Pence, and others. The individual identified as “patient zero” attended CPAC and AIPAC, events drawing attention due to the gathering of prominent political figures.
The 55-year-old man from Englewood, identified as Dr. Berger, has since been quarantined in New Jersey, as confirmed by state authorities. Notably, Matt Schlapp, who interacted with Dr. Berger before shaking hands with President Trump, urged attendees not to panic, emphasizing his own well-being.
Senator Cruz, on the other hand, revealed that he briefly interacted with an individual at CPAC who tested positive for COVID-19, prompting him to self-quarantine. The subsequent revelation of Arizona Republican Paul Gosar and three staff members entering quarantine after CPAC contacts heightened concerns.
The unfolding scenario underscores the potential spread of infection within conservative circles, with Raheem Kassam, host of the War Room podcast, claiming he was around the infected individual and had been unwell. Kassam expressed concerns about potential exposure for individuals such as Rep Louie Gohmert, Kellyanne Conway, and Rep Matt Gaetz.
Dr. Berger’s medical background includes obtaining a degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University, and he has been in practice for over 20 years. Active in political circles, Dr. Berger, along with his brother, supported Senator Cruz’s 2016 presidential bid. Despite attending the Republican Jewish Coalition summit, where he expressed preferences for Cruz or Mike Huckabee over Trump, Dr. Berger has ties to the Kushner family.
NYU Langone Health confirmed Dr. Berger’s self-quarantine, emphasizing that he is no longer seeing patients at his private practice. The unfolding situation highlights the interconnectedness of political and medical spheres as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact diverse communities.
