Hezbollah fighters have intensified their attacks on Israeli military positions near the Lebanon-Israel border in response to Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza. According to a statement from Hezbollah released on Sunday, the group targeted Israeli forces at the Birkat Risha outpost in the north of Israel, resulting in casualties among the Israeli troops.
Reports from Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen TV noted that several Israeli soldiers were injured in the strikes, and additional attacks hit the vicinity of the Hanita military facility, approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Nahariya. Hezbollah had previously announced attacks on the Birkat Risha Israeli post, causing deaths and injuries among Israeli soldiers.
Israeli media reported that four Israeli soldiers were wounded in the attacks, one critically. Subsequent to the Birkat Risha strikes, Hezbollah declared attacks on four more Israeli posts, specifying that it targeted groups of Israeli soldiers.
In response, Israeli artillery shelling targeted multiple areas on the outskirts of Lebanese border towns, including al-Jibbain, Khiam, Deir Mimas, Blida, Houla, Mays al-Jabal, and Kfarkila. Hezbollah confirmed the death of one more fighter, Radwan Hammoudi, from the southern city of Tyre.
Saturday witnessed heightened tensions, with Israeli media reporting alert sirens in the northern part of the occupied territories and explosions in the Upper Galilee area.
The Israeli regime has been conducting sporadic attacks on southern Lebanon since October 7, coinciding with its military campaign in Gaza. Hezbollah, in response, has launched near-daily rocket attacks on Israeli positions along the border, leading to a cycle of retaliatory air and artillery strikes.
The toll from the clashes includes more than 120 deaths on the Lebanese side, comprising mostly Hezbollah fighters and a dozen civilians. Israel reported casualties, with at least six soldiers and four settlers killed. The Lebanese army also lost a soldier, and 17 Lebanese civilians, including three journalists, lost their lives in the exchanges. The situation reflects the escalating tensions and the interconnected nature of conflicts in the region.
