Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi strongly condemned the recent killing of Seyyed Razi Mousavi, an Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) military advisor, in an Israeli airstrike in Syria. Raeisi asserted that the Israeli regime will “definitely pay the price” for this criminal act, considering it a desperate move by the usurping Zionist regime. Mousavi, who served as a military advisor in Syria, was targeted in the Sayyeda Zeinab neighborhood of Damascus.
President Raeisi extended heartfelt condolences to Mousavi’s family, his comrades in the IRGC, and the Iranian nation. Notably, Mousavi had been a companion of Iran’s top anti-terror commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was martyred in a US drone strike in January 2020.
Iran maintains an advisory mission in Syria to assist the war-torn country against foreign-backed militants. The recent assassination follows a pattern, as Israel had previously killed two IRGC military advisors in Syria earlier in December. Raeisi emphasized Mousavi’s role in upholding Islamic values and protecting Syria against external threats.
Furthermore, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani condemned the Israeli regime’s “vicious and cowardly” act, characterizing it as a clear manifestation of Israel’s terrorist nature. Kan’ani pointed out Israel’s consistent violation of international regulations and norms, stating that Iran reserves the right to respond appropriately at the necessary time and place. This condemnation underscores Iran’s determination to address such acts and holds the Israeli regime accountable for its actions.
