At least 55 people are reported to have been injured – several of them seriously – when two groups clashed during an Eritrean cultural festival at Järvafältet in Stockholm.

“It is not reasonable that Sweden is drawn into other countries’ domestic conflicts in this way,” writes Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) in a comment to SVT.

“Festival Eritrea Scandinavia” was held at Järvafältet in Stockholm on Thursday. The festival, which is described as loyal to the Eritrean regime, was stormed by a mob of around 1,000 people and large fights broke out.

The mob was armed with sticks and tent pegs, among other things.

The police had great difficulty in creating order in the area, which turned into a pure war zone. Police officers were subjected to, among other things, stone throwing.

Of the 55 reported injured, three are police officers.

At 19:00, eight people with serious injuries had been taken to hospital.

– We deal with the situation on an ongoing basis. There are many people in motion at the scene and the total damage situation is still unclear, says Patrik Söderberg, chief physician, Region Stockholm, in a press release.
