Left-wing extremists often have strong psychopathic and narcissistic traits and use their “anti-racist” struggle to vent their sadistic tendencies and grandiose self-images. That’s according to a new study, reports the New York Post.
The new study is published in the scientific journal Current Psychology.
The researchers describe left-wing extremists as people with “dark personalities” who use the ideology as a tool for selfish ends.
“According to this principle, individuals with dark personalities—such as strong narcissistic and psychopathic traits—are attracted to certain forms of political and social activism that they can use as a means to satisfy their own ego-focused needs instead of actually working for social justice and equality” , the researchers write.
In particular, certain forms of activism provide psychopaths with “opportunities for positive self-presentation and display of moral superiority, to gain social status, to dominate others, and to engage in social conflict and aggression to satisfy their thrill-seeking needs”.
The study also shows that many times the left-wing extremists themselves hardly live as they teach. The fight against “racism” and the like is often used as a cover for unruly behavior.
They can also satisfy their narcissistic traits by condemning others who do not share their “progressive values”, as well as dominate others by denying dissenters free speech and subjecting them to violence.
It is often about people who themselves have a “privileged background” and who narcissistically make their activism about themselves instead of achieving the “equality” for minority groups they claim to be fighting for, according to the researchers.
“Minority groups should be made aware of the narcissistic ‘enemies’ within their activist movement, as these individuals can hijack their issues and thus reduce the success of activism in many ways,” the researchers warn.
