Police in Germany are seeking a suspect of “southern appearance” with a “long black beard” following a stabbing rampage at a fitness club that left four people seriously injured this week, according to reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded on Tuesday evening in Duisborg, a city in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Police received urgent calls about an attack at John Reed Fitness near the city center, Bild reports.
Officers found four German citizens ranging in age from 21 to 32 years old suffering from severe stab wounds at the facility.
“Three men suffered life-threatening injuries and one man was seriously injured. They were taken to nearby hospitals and some underwent emergency surgery. According to the current status, one man is still in mortal danger,” authorities explained in a press release on Wednesday.
Witnesses say the attack started in a dressing room, with the suspect apparently stabbing victims at random with “large knives – possibly even machetes,” according to Bild.
The suspect fled the scene and is still on the run, according to the latest available updates.
He is described by police as having a “long black beard” and a “southern appearance” – a phrase typically used for suspects from North Africa or surrounding areas.
An investigation is ongoing.
