A migrant from Africa was caught in the act of sexually assaulting a young woman aboard a tram in France this week, authorities say.

The disturbing incident unfolded during the early afternoon on Monday in La Courneuve, a commune in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis on the outskirts of Paris.

Five undercover officers were riding a local train when they noticed a man physically intimidating a female rider.

An approaching officer observed the suspect grinding his genitals against the woman’s buttocks as he grabbed the bar above her head, effectively trapping her in a vulnerable position.

“She ends up getting out of the tram with her mother. One of the police officers then makes contact with the young woman, aged 21, who says she is shocked and frightened by what has just happened,” Amaury Bucco of CNews reported on social media.

“The police officers who remained in the tram note that the suspect showed a stain on his pants, which was not present before, and which could therefore be akin to semen.”

The suspect was quickly arrested and taken to the police station.

He was identified as Alhaj S., a 35-year-old Sudanese migrant whose immigration status is unclear.

Alhaj was reportedly scheduled to appear before a judge on March 1, but due to congestion in the courts, his hearing has been postponed until June 7.

A heated debate over violent crime and lawlessness tied to mass migration has been raging in France.

Military leaders have fired off multiple incendiary letters in recent years, warning the Macron government of looming “civil war” if strong measures are not taken to regain control of a society spiraling into chaos.
