A female retiree suffered serious facial injuries when she was beaten and robbed by a pair of illegal migrants from Africa who claimed to be underage last week in France, according to reports.

The disturbing incident unfolded on Tuesday in Amiens, a city in the Somme department.

A 67-year-old woman was on her way to do some grocery shopping when she was approached by two young men.

The suspects asked her for a cigarette, a common tactic used by migrants to distract or engage their victims.

When the woman declined, they jumped on her and grabbed her purse.

During the struggle, the woman was slammed face-first into the pavement.

She was brought to hospital suffering from a broken nose and other injuries.

The suspects fled the scene but were apprehended a short time later.

One of the men was spotted by police when he rushed out of a shop after using the victim’s credit card to make a purchase.

The other suspect was found hiding at a residence shared by the men.

Both suspects were later identified as citizens of the West African country of Ivory Coast. They are illegally present in France.

“They say they are minors, but the investigation contradicts them,” the Courrier-Picard reports. “Moussa Doumbia is sentenced to 8 months in prison including 2 months firm and Soulaymane Meite to 6 months including 2 months firm.”

“The two defendants were imprisoned at the end of the hearing, they will be expelled upon their release.”

During a court hearing, one of the suspects asked for the victim’s forgiveness.

“I don’t forgive you, you hurt me too much,” she replied. “I am very ill.”

“I worked from 16 to 62 only to get attacked by people like this.”
