According to the New York Times, the US has given up trying to locate the two unidentified flying objects it shot down last week over Alaska and Lake Huron.
The site stated on Friday, citing an anonymous US official, that the search was suspended because the terrain in the northern regions made it too difficult to locate the wreckage.
The source claimed that attempts to locate the crashed aircraft in Alaska were made using aircraft equipped with sophisticated radars that can see through ice but to no avail.
According to the official, three items were shot down last week over Alaska, Lake Huron, and Canada. The Canadian authorities are currently looking for the wreckage on their soil.
Following the downing of what it claimed to be a Chinese surveillance balloon on February 4, the US began its search for UFOs.
Beijing charged that Washington had overreacted and argued that the item was a civilian craft that was blown off course by strong winds and was mostly employed for meteorological purposes.
As a result of the conflict, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s trip to China was postponed, and Washington imposed penalties on a number of Chinese businesses and research institutions.
US President Joe Biden discussed the three UFOs on Thursday, saying it was unclear exactly what they were but that there was no reason to believe they were Chinese or other national surveillance aircraft.
