A 23-year-old Afghan was arrested and placed in police custody on Saturday December 31 in Reims, Le Figaro learned from a police source. He is suspected of stabbing a 34-year-old woman in the throat while jogging.
This individual, whose residence permit is valid until January 26, 2023, was previously unknown to the police. “ The person is still in custody for attempted murder. The days of the young woman are not in danger ”, indicates to Figaro the public prosecutor of Reims, Matthieu Bourrette.
The facts took place shortly before 4 p.m. rue René de Bovis, a place frequented by sportsmen and walkers with their dogs. Several witnesses explained to the police that they had noticed an individual wearing a djellaba who seemed to be suffering from mental disorders.
The victim on the ground
According to these witnesses, the man threw himself on the jogger, who arrived in front of him, while shouting “ a sentence in a foreign language ”. He then tackled her while stabbing her in the throat. Interrupted by cries and the barking of dogs, the attacker then fled.
Thanks to the reports of witnesses, the suspect was arrested a few moments later by police officers from a motorized brigade. Injured in the throat, the victim was taken care of by the emergency services and transported to the hospital, without his state of health causing concern. The departmental security of the Marne is in charge of the investigation.
