More than a tenth of all Somali nationals residing in Germany are suspected of committing crimes in the country, according to reports.

Data obtained by a parliamentary official indicate a stunning number of citizens of the East African nation have been implicated in criminal activity while living in Europe.

Harald Weyel, a member of the Bundestag representing the Alternative für Deutschland party, obtained the information after filing a request with the federal government.

“In 2020, every tenth Somali in Germany was statistically a suspect in criminal proceedings. For people with German citizenship, the value was less than 2%. All crimes related to the right of residence have already been eliminated from the figures,” Junge Freiheit reports.

Approximately 47,000 Somalis were known to be living Germany in 2020, 5,200 of whom were suspects in criminal proceedings.

Weyel sought the figures after a Somali national killed two people during a stabbing rampage in the city of Ludwigshafen in October.

The suspect reportedly yelled “Allah akbar” while stabbing two painters to death, ultimately chopping one of the men’s hands off during the bloody attack.

The rise of Somali crime is a ‘threatening development,’ Weyel warned while blasting politicians for ‘standing by and doing nothing.’

Despite migrants continuing to perpetrate heinous acts of violence against Germans, officials and law enforcement frequently warn citizens against developing ‘anti-immigrant’ sentiments.

In one recent case, an Afghan man who gang-raped a 14-year-old girl was granted police protection due to concerns for his safety after another teen girl was murdered by a migrant in the same German village this month.

Authorities said they were worried about “possible public discontent” regarding ‘refugees’ following the unprovoked stabbing of two teen girls near an asylum home in the town of Illerkirchberg on December 5 that left a 14-year-old girl dead.
