The Berlin police must use a “discrimination-sensitive” and gender-neutral form of linguistic expression in the future, according to new guidelines.

The Berliner Landeskriminalamt (LKA) has drawn up guidelines for “discrimination-sensitive language”, writes Junge Freiheit.

The police officers must use the form of language chosen by the persons concerned and avoid terms such as “refugee”.

Words such as “hijab wearer”, “mentally disabled” and “race” are also on the list of banned words.

LKA recommends that police officers listen carefully and respect the self-designation used by the person concerned.

When the police write reports and documents, they must contain so-called gender colons, a left-wing German way of writing professional titles so that they become gender neutral.

The Berlin government already adopted in September 2020 a diversity program that prescribes the use of new sensitive expressions such as “people with a migration background” instead of immigrants, among other things.
