Yesterday, Vladimir Putin unleashed a deadly missile assault on the towns and civilian infrastructure of Ukraine.

In reaction to Putin’s overwhelming onslaught, US President Joe Biden pledged Ukraine cutting-edge air defense systems. He denounced Russia’s “senseless strikes” in a phone chat with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday. He said in a statement released before to the phone call that the attacks proved the Russian president’s “total cruelty.”

The United States has already promised to providing Ukraine with National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Weapons, but President Biden did not identify the kinds of systems that Ukraine will get (NASAMS).

These very sophisticated technologies have been deployed to safeguard important US buildings, such as the White House and the US Capitol.

As a result of the conversation, the White House released the following statement: “[President Biden] reiterated his disapproval of Russia’s missile strikes across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, and sent his sympathies to the families of those killed and injured in these senseless acts.

President Biden promised to keep giving Ukraine the defense assistance it needs, including cutting-edge air defense equipment.

It added: “[Biden] also underscored his ongoing engagement with allies and partners to continue imposing costs on Russia, holding Russia accountable for its war crimes and atrocities, and providing Ukraine with security, economic, and humanitarian assistance.”

Since Russia’s invasion on February 24th, the US has given Ukraine security aid totaling more than $16.8 billion.

Following a significant explosion on the Kerch bridge, which connects the Crimean peninsula to mainland Russia, attacks were launched on Ukrainian cities.

Vladimir Putin’s personal project, the more than 11-mile-long bridge cost billions of dollars to build.

It represented the ties between Russia and Crimea, which Moscow illegitimately acquired in 2014.

Russia alleges that Ukraine exploded a vehicle bomb on the bridge, causing it to fall in part and endanger the nearby railroad bridge.

However, a number of Ukrainian authorities have praised the action even though Kyiv has not admitted involvement for the strike.

Moscow’s strikes on important Ukrainian cities are probably in part a response to domestic hardliners pressuring Moscow to intensify its operations on Ukraine.

Russian leaders and prominent military bloggers have called for more ruthless action against Ukraine. After the attack on the Kerch bridge, this cry peaked.

Some Russians appear to have been calmed by the strikes. Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, who has long advocated for harsher actions against Ukraine, declared himself “100% satisfied” with the military campaign.

The head of the state-funded RT television, Margarita Simonyan, applauded the attacks and said that Ukraine had crossed a line by striking the Crimean bridge.

At today’s emergency G7 summit, Ukrainian President Zelensky is scheduled to speak. It is uncertain if Ukraine’s Western partners would increase and speed up their delivery of military supplies as the war’s tempo quickens.
