Shameless Hungary Teaches its Children in Schools about who should ‘OWN’ Ukraine, EU and the US or Russia? Independence is not even an option for them.
The National Public Education Portal hosts the controversial textbook. Among other things, it implies that the Crimean Mountains are not included in the idea of mountains in Ukraine and instead exclusively refers to the Carpathians. The Crimean peninsula, which broke away from Kiev’s government in 2014 to join Russia, is still under dispute.
Another section of the textbook claims that there are numerous parallels between the Russian and Ukrainian languages and mentions that ethnic Russians make up a sizable portion of the population in eastern Ukraine and that close to 5% of Ukrainians speak a mixture of the two languages. Despite their similarities, the two ethnic groups “are frequently at odds with one another,” according to the textbook, and this unrest “provoked an armed confrontation over the Crimean peninsula.”
It then uses a parody image of the Ukrainian flag being torn apart by a bear wearing a Russian flag and two individuals with the US and EU insignia on their backs to depict the conflict over Ukraine. “Who should own Ukraine?” is a question that is shown beside the image.
How about nobody should own Ukraine? How about that? What if other countries were teaching their children about who is the rightful “owner” of Hungary? The EU, Austria or Russia? Would they like that? Why should anyone “own” Ukraine???
Hungary is a member of the EU, does that meant that they are “owned” by the EU? Then if that’s what they believe why don’t they get out of the EU like the UK did? But, no for sure they still see themselves as an independent country and for all means and purposes, they are one. Being a member of the European Union does not mean that you become their property. You will still be an independent country. Of course member states need to abide by some rules but hey nobody is forcing you into the union and you do retain your independence. You still have your language, culture, currency, freedoms, etc. under Russia however there is no more independence. Russia is not conquering Ukraine to maintain it free. Russia wants to conquer their lands to forcefully integrate them into their culture.
They want to erase their language, heritage, culture, currency, everything. Under Russia, bye bye Ukrainian Hryvnia, hello Russian Ruble, bye bye Ukrainian language, hello Russian language! This is the textbook definition of genocide. The erasure of a people and their culture. This is exactly what they did in Crimea, Kherson and other regions they occupied. They took down the Ukrainian yellow and blue flags and anchored their Russian flags and in some cases even USSR flags. Banks and shops have been banned from using Hryvnia money. Now they use Rubles.
This is nothing new under the Sun. Russia has long oppressed the Ukrainian language and culture which were outright BANNED in the 1800s while Ukraine (back then it was known as Ruthenia and had the same exact flag of today, yellow and blue) was occupied by the Russian Empire under Emperor Alexander II of Russia. So tell us Hungary, why should Russia “own” Ukraine? Ukraine should be independent and a buffer state between Hungary and Russia. Hungary should be thankful Ukraine exists. If Ukraine disappears, Hungary will directly neighbor/border Russia. Why would they think this is a good thing? It is NEVER a good thing to be a neighbor of an evil expansionist empire.
Perhaps they have fantasies that they are gonna get the little Transcarpatia region (Zakarpattia Oblast) from Ukraine if Russia wins. If such is the case then they learned nothing from history. Russia does not know how to give. Russia knows only how to take! Have you ever seen Russian foreign aid or something like how America is doing? Furthermore even if Orban is a good friend of Putin today and he may get some benefits today from Russia, Hungary should think in the long term and in the long term, you cannot vouch who will come next after Putin. Maybe someone way worse will come to power that could become an enemy of Hungary and someone who will not only take Transcarpatia back but maybe even more territory as far as Budapest. You can never know with the Russians. They are not reliable people. Look what they did with Crimea, they gave it to Ukraine and now it took it back and not only that but now they want to take even more from Ukraine even though they signed a memorandum right in their country, in BUDAPEST in which Russia vowed to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine and its borders in exchange for Ukraine giving its nuclear arsenal to Russia. Of course, Russia being Russia, did not respect the treaty so Hungary should think twice before even thinking about supporting Russia in any way shape or form.
