The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported on Sunday that at least 10 people were killed and 15 or more injured were wounded after two perpetrators went on a stabbing rampage in several rural Saskatchewan sites. They issued a warning, stating that the suspects were still at large, dangerous, and armed.
Damien Sanderson, 31, and Myles Sanderson, 30, have been identified as the suspects. They may be seen driving a black Nissan Rogue with the license plate SK 119 MPI and they are of Native Indian descent probably brothers as well.
At a news conference on Sunday afternoon, RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore stated, “We have identified 10 deceased victims in 13 sites throughout the community of James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, Saskatchewan.”
According to the police official, “many other individuals have been hurt, 15 of whom at this time have been sent to various hospitals.” They also noted that “there may be further injured victims who transported themselves to hospital,” and they urged them to come forward. “We think some of the victims were targeted while others were struck at random.”
On Sunday at 7:12am CT (12:12pm GMT), a public notice was initially sent regarding an event with “mass casualties.” The emergency alert was extended to the whole province of Saskatchewan when Saskatchewan officials recognized two male suspects and their vehicle.
Although “at this moment, we have no evidence they traveled to another province,” the RCMP said, “since the suspects remain at large, we have also requested the warning be extended to Manitoba and Alberta.”
Authorities are warning the public not to leave protected areas, approach unknown people, or pick up hitchhikers as the manhunt goes on, and to report any suspicious behavior to them.
While the Canadian authorities are not specifying exactly what does both “targeted and random” attacks at the same time mean, it is highly possible that the attacks were racially motivated and the two Native Indian brothers may be targeting white Canadians for slaughter purely driven by hate and racism.
