The police were trying to arrest a suspected thief who had just snatched the chain from a passerby, when they were surrounded and lynched by a crowd of people. The suspect managed to flee. At least two police officers are injured. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reacted to this affair.
Three police officers from the interdepartmental public transport security service (SISTC) were attacked this Wednesday evening in the La Guillotière district of Lyon (7th) by a crowd of people, while they were arresting a thief. presumed. The scene of violence was filmed and these barely believable images were broadcast on social networks. At least two of the three police officers are injured.
The facts occurred on Place Gabriel-Péri, in front of a Casino supermarket, around 7:30 p.m. The police set off in pursuit of a man who had just committed a robbery. The latter would have torn the chain from a passerby. At the time of the arrest and as they tried to subdue the suspect, the civil servants in civilian clothes were surrounded and violently beaten by about twenty people.
On these amateur videos, it is possible to see attackers punching and kicking. One uses a stick to hit the officers. Others launch projectiles. One of the perpetrators even uses tear gas against the police. The police are obviously trying to drag their arrested into the store to take shelter, in vain. This one is “liberated” by the crowd and manages to flee.
