The number of people arrested in Switzerland in an irregular situation has increased sharply. In June, 3,468 migrants were concerned, nearly three times more than in the same month last year.
This increase is mainly due to the irregular entry of migrants into Switzerland via the eastern border, the Federal Customs Office wrote on Monday. The increase was regular during all the months of the year 2022.
As in previous months, the majority are Afghan nationals. There is also an increase in the number of people of North African origin, the customs statement said.
The number of surrenders to foreign authorities has also increased. Supposed cases of smuggling activity are at about the same level as in May 2022 and June 2021, around 30 per month.
