Since the beginning of March, nearly 350 complaints have been filed across France for syringe attacks. A first suspect was arrested on Saturday June 4, during an evening in Toulon.

An individual was arrested on the night of Friday to Saturday June 4 on a beach in Toulon, in the Var, during the recording of a TF1 program. He allegedly assaulted several people with a syringe. According to “Le Figaro“, a judicial investigation was opened and the suspect was placed in pre-trial detention.
In addition to this arrest, there are fourteen complaints filed this weekend by people present at the evening organized by TF1. Elsewhere in France, six participants in a music festival in Belfort which took place from June 2 to 5, filed a complaint for similar facts and four others in the Gers. “SudOuest” takes stock of these disturbing events.

What is the profile of the suspect?
In addition to the fourteen complaints, the Toulon prosecutor’s office recorded 21 reports during the evening. To these are added two people, who, during an altercation, formally saw the individual implicated with a syringe, they reported to justice.
He is a 20-year-old man of Tunisian origin. Without a residence permit and without a job, the man is known to the courts. In a state of legal recidivism, he has already been sentenced in 2020 for domestic violence on his partner, who would have been heard this weekend. When questioned, the individual continues to deny the facts, said Toulon prosecutor Samuel Finielz.
For the time being, a judicial investigation has been opened under violence aggravated by two circumstances: premeditation and the weapon by destination that constitutes the syringe. The Toulon prosecutor’s office remains reserved on the “harmful substances” administered. Eight clinical examinations are in progress. In seven cases, the impacts of the syringe were observed. A majority of victims had no symptoms.
