An Albanian migrant was arrested by French police for multiple sexual assaults on very young girls riding public transport, according to reports.
The 19-year-old suspect was already known to authorities, having committed similar acts in 2018, an official source told French media.
On Monday, a father brought his 13-year-old daughter to a police station in Saint-Étienne to report a sexual assault that had taken place on a bus.
The girl said a man groped her buttocks and legs.
A similar complaint was filed in December by a 15-year-old girl who reported being molested on a public bus.
After reviewing surveillance footage, investigators were able to determine the suspect’s likely identity.
“The next day, an operation was set up to try to corner the suspect,” Actu 17 reports. “Plainclothes police were at the place where the defendant was taking the bus. It was finally the next day that the suspect was arrested, while he was in the same place.”
Authorities say the man initially denied involvement in either incident, but later confessed.
His trial has reportedly been set for March.
