A 37-year-old Romanian-Moldavian, who refers to himself a gypsy, has been sentenced to six years in prison for the kidnapping, rape, and torture of a Romanian girl in Gothenburg.
The Romanian gypsy migrant, who according to the police worked as a pimp in Gothenburg, had apparently brought the girl to Sweden with the hope that he would be able to sell her as a prostitute, Swedish news portal Samhällsnytt reports.
In September of last year, after the girl had arrived in Sweden, the 37-year-old gypsy took her to an empty room at the harbor Frihamnen 18, where he and his family lived, and locked her inside. Over the next few months, the girl was held captive, raped, and tortured.
It wasn’t until December 10th that police were alerted to the situation by a vigilant neighbor in the area who heard how a man screamed and beat a woman inside of the building. When the police arrived, they found the victim locked inside of the room with open wounds all over her body, including on her private parts. After freeing the girl, it didn’t take long for police to track down and arrest the perpetrator.
In court, the girl testified how the man kidnapped her, raped her with a 1.5 liter plastic bottle, and threatened to kill her with a screwdriver if she failed to insert the entire bottle into herself. The victim said the incident ended after the perpetrator’s father interrupted, saying that he didn’t want the teenage girl to be killed in their ‘home’.
According to documents from the police investigation, the perpetrator repeatedly beat the teenage victim with his fists and with an electric cable, although during a police interrogation, the man claimed to have only “grabbed her and hit her a little”.
In March, after being convicted of rape, human trafficking, threats, abuse, and assault, the perpetrator was sentenced to just six years in prison and was ordered to pay the victim 25,000 euros. Upon serving his sentence, the man will be deported from Sweden and banned from returning.
