Italy: Leftist coalition to hand out more cash per day to migrants than disabled Italians

Italy’s leftist-globalist governing coalition will likely hand out much more cash per day to migrants than to disabled Italians, a new analysis of the state’s budget has revealed.

Figures published this week revealed the state will allocate €50 million next year, €200 in 2021, and €300 in 2022 to put towards Disability and Self-Reliance Fund, Italy’s Il Giornale reports.

About two million of the three million disabled individuals in Italy rely on state benefits to survive. If the amount of money allocated by the state to serve these people is divided by the number of people who require such services, every disabled person would be given 54 cents per day. In short, this kind of money isn’t enough to pay for the most basic living expenses.

At the same time, the Italian government gives migrants close to €20 each day. The figure was lowered from €35 per day after Matteo Salvini and his national populist League party formed a government with the Five Star Movement (M5S).

Of course, pro-migrant groups decried the change in policy enacted by Salvini’s government.

Despite the changes, the gap between the financial support given to disabled Italians and the financial support that’s given to migrants remains utterly absurd.

According to Fabio Scaltritti of the Community San Benedetto al Porto in Alessandria, the issue of handing out cash to migrants “is not an economic question, but an ethical one”.

And while people argue over how much cash to hand out to migrants, Italy’s economic situation continues to be shaky as its debt to GDP ratio remains sky-high at 130 percent.
