Germany: Leipzig offers €100,000 bounty to identify Leftist extremists

Following a series of violent attacks by left-wing extremists against people and property in the city of Leipzig, officials have offered members of the community a € 100,000 reward to identify individuals involved in the attacks.

The Leipzig public prosecutor and the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) of Saxony announced last week that a € 100,000 reward would be given to private individuals who come forward with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the left-wing extremists in question, Bild reports.

The city’s reward, the largest amount offered to the public since the 1990s, comes after a series of attacks by left-wing extremists, including the home invasion and beating of a real estate employee, and an arson attack of a luxury apartment development which resulted in 10 million euros in damages.

Members from the extreme-left Antifa movement are believed to be responsible for both attacks.

Following the recent uptick in violent attacks by left-wing extremists, the eastern German state of Saxony announced the establishment of a Special Commission on left-wing extremism (Soko LinX). The commission will have twenty investigators who are tasked with finding the perpetrators of the aforementioned attacks.

So far this year there have been 305 left-wing attacks, compared to 222 in the whole of 2018.

Last week in Berlin, 19 police officers were injured by a large mob of far-left extremists who attacked officers with bottles, stones, and other projectiles during a protest against the eviction of illegal squatters.
