The Administrative Court of Cologne has ruled that the Identitarian Movement in Germany has no viewpoints that would justify a classification as a ‘right-wing extremist’ organization, Die Presse reports.

Because of the decision made by the Cologne administrative court on Wednesday, the German domestic spy agency, known as the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), will be forced to overturn the movement’s classification as a ‘secured right-wing extremist aspiration against the liberal democratic constitution’.

From the beginning, the BfV’s decision to label the pan-European identity movement as ‘right-wing extremist was widely believed to be entirely politically and ideologically motivated, with little legal or argumentative basis supporting it.

This, however, didn’t stop the mainstream leftist press from smearing the group as a quasi-terrorist organization.

But on Wednesday, this false notion was put to rest after the court ruled that there was, in fact, no valid reason why the BfV made this reassessment.

Now, it’s quite likely that the BfV will object to the court’s decision within a two-week period.

Regardless, the decision made by the Administrative Court provides a solid basis for the Identitarian Movement’s prospects for victory in this matter.

While speaking with Junge Freiheit, the Identitarian Movement’s leader in Germany Daniel Fiss, said, “For us it is clear that now it will go into the hot phase of legal confrontation with the Protection of the Constitution.”

Fiss mentioned that the Identitarian Movement is fighting “on a decision-making front that could pave the way for all patriotic actors in this country”.

“Patriotic activism and youth work must continue to be legitimate,” he added.

Earlier this month, a court in France slapped three leading figures of Generation Identity (GI) in France, with six months jail sentences for engaging in a peaceful expedition in the Alps designed to bring attention to the migrant crisis.
