The bail/bond system is to assure people will show up for their trials, so they won’t lose their money. Sometimes trials can take months or years to start, it would be wrong to put most law offenders waiting in jail all that time. If you show up for your trial- whether you are found innocent or guilty, you get your bond refunded. You are not allowed contact with the defendant & at times may have to wear ankle monitors to keep you at home. And for the dangerous/severe cases, bail is not allowed, or they may make it millions of dollars. It is actually a pretty good system, some times big mistakes are possibly made where someone gets away, but that’s rare. At least in the US we have a strong justice system, not like in Europe, where the worst you get is maybe 10 years. We have the death penalty, life in prison, AND ‘prisoner justice’, where the prisoners beat up child rapists & such.

Sorry for the mistake and thank you for clearing it up. We can accept criticism over a mistake. Yes I didn’t know exactly what an American bond was. I thought it was like a tax to get out of jail but tell you what, even if punishment is still applied if found guilty during the trial, a bond system still shouldn’t exist in such cases. And what about if she wins the case and she’s found innocent and it was all just a mistake? Will she be refunded the entire sum of money she paid?
Besides what if in this case she pays the bail then she goes visit that relative and tells her something to this extent “Hey here’s $10K, nothing ever happened, ok?” or a more serious threat like “Hey I have a paid assassin, if you talk shit during the trial and I get jailed, my assassin will take care of you!”
Even if its not what I thought it was, a bond/bail system is still f***d up for such dangerous/severe cases and shouldn’t exist in a true democracy!
