A video gone viral from Saturday’s French Yellow Vests protests depicts a man repeatedly punching French riot police during the Paris protests.
The man was with other yellow vest protesters and police were attempting to prevent their crossing the the Leopold-Sédar-Senghor bridge.
Officers using batons and tear gas spray to keep crowds back, one man is seen jumping over a barrier and begins punching at a riot police officer, causing the officer and his colleagues to retreat.

Wearing a black hat, gloves and coat without the yellow vest he tells police they should be “ashamed”. In another video the same man is seen kicking one officer, who was lying on the ground, in the head.

In this last video you can see a man in red and a man with a yellow vest both slammed to the ground by a cop then attacked and hit from all directions, shortly after, the boxer steps in to protect the two men.
A police union shared the video along with the message: “Sir, you who punch a colleague on the ground, you have been identified. For a boxer, you do not respect a lot of rules. We will teach you those of the penal code”.
Monsieur, vous qui avez frappé un collègue à terre, vous êtes identifié. Pour un boxeur, vous ne respectez apparement pas beaucoup de règles. Nous allons vous apprendre celles du code pénal. @EmmanuelMacron @EPhilippePM @CCastaner @NunezLaurent @DGPNEricMorvan @prefpolice pic.twitter.com/zBNcD9kWMs

The French interior minister, Christophe Castaner, calls the attack as “cowardly and intolerable”. Mr. Castaner has called for the public prosecutor to open an investigation into the incident.
Social media, of course, saw things differently calling the boxer a hero of the movement reminding people of the alleged police violence during recent weeks. The former boxer has been identified as Christophe Dettinger.
The boxer is considered a HERO by the French people however as he came in defense of two men who were knocked to the ground, surrounded and and kicked from all sides by a gang of cops. What the cops did to those men was “cowardly and intolerable”. What the boxer did, was heroic and the fact that the French interior minister is siding with his goons on such a dirty attack, will irk the already angered French people even more.
