A shooting took place in central Stockholm on Friday. A man described as “Moroccan” fired a gun at a “man of Afghan origin”, according to witnesses.

Several people in the morning rush at Fridhemsplan called the police after witnessing a brawl escalating into a shooting between three people.

The shooting took place outside the Prison Service’s premises – only a few hundred meters from the local police office.

According to witnesses the perpetrator was a 180 cm tall Moroccan. He was wearing a blue down vest over a grey hoodie, light washed jeans and trainers. His hair was shaved on the sides and the rest of it was in a ponytail, like a “man-bun”.

The victim is said to be of Afghan origin. It is considered a miracle that no one was injured since bullets were fired right next to the crowd. The perpetrator fired a shot, and then another.

The person being shot at ran towards the subway and the perpetrator set off in another direction shortly after the shooting.

The police say they have launched an investigation into attempted murder, but other details about the incident or the suspected offender cannot be confirmed or discussed. Incidents like this are becoming more and more common in Stockholm and the rest of Sweden.

Shootings in broad daylight, right in the middle of crowds of pedestrians on their way to, or home from work. Ten, five or even two years ago this would have made headlines.

Today mainstream media barely mention it – and both they and the police avoid releasing physical descriptions of the perpetrators at all cost.
