Late Wednesday night two arrests were made in connection with the rape and possible murder of the 16-year-old Italian girl Desiree Mariottini.
The teen girl was found dead in an abandoned building in a suburb in Rome. It is believed that she was drugged and gang raped while being unconscious, investigators say.
Two illegal Senegalese migrants have been arrested: Mamadou Gara, 26, and Brian Minteh, 43. They are suspected of sexual group violence, selling drugs and voluntary manslaughter.
A third suspect has also been found, but police are investigating his role in the lethal drama. Italian sources say police are trying to track down two other suspects as well.
“Two illegal immigrants were held last night for the rape and death of Desirée, two others are wanted,” Interior Minister and Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini said via Twitter.
“Thank you to the police. I will do everything so that the worms guilty of this horror pay in full for their vileness, with no discounts,” he added.
Yesterday we already reported what a witness said when he arrived at the scene:
“They drugged and raped her… A girl was screaming… I looked at the woman screaming and there was another girl in bed: they had put a blanket up to her head, but her head could be seen. I do not know if she was breathing but she seemed dead already, because the other girl was screaming and saying she was dead.”
