Sweden Democrat, Stefan Borg, has come under fire recently for his stance on Russia and other social media posts. The Sweden Democrat group leader in Hörby recently called Russia a “stabilising and peace making force”.
The onslaught of smears followed quickly and he chose to suspend his candidacy for the post of chairman of the municipal council. This would have been the first run for chairman following Hörby’s successful September election.
However it now looks as if they won’t be getting the post of chairman, “I have decided not to apply for the post of chairman of the municipal council.
The media attention directed at my person has made it impossible for the party in Hörby to focus on what is important, that is, Hörby’s future and the policy we want to pursue for the municipality.”
The right-wing Swedish Democrats are often referred to as “enfant terrible” in Swedens left wing politics. However they recently became the largest party in the municipality of Skåne and the scene was set to reach a new milestone of leading a municipality for the first time ever.
Recently Borg has come under scrutiny for multiple public comments and social media posts, which Swedish left-wing watchdogs have said don’t represent Swedish values. Including one about the gay pride rainbow flag.
In one post on Facebook Borg wrote, “Everything is for everyone, no limits here, in Hörby everyone should be included, everyone should feel pride, necrophiliacs, pedophiles, coprophagists, bestialists — you name it!”
Borg as also posted, “Our children are most likely to become the last generation to live in a country that is majority-Swedish.” Swedish watchdogs have not taken kindly to these divisive, but mostly true posts.
After the recent controversy of complimenting Russia and Borgs membership in a Russia Friendly Facebook group, he has decided to drop out of the campaign for Chairman of of the municipal council.
This comes as a big blow to right-wing politics in Sweden, which are already minimal.
