On Tuesday, after the EU in an aberrant move rejected Italy’s budget, Italian MEP Angelo Ciocca, who represents the League, slammed his shoe on his notes and shouted “Italy deserves respect!” to the European Commissioner for finance.

The month long stand-off between the populist government and the EU over the Italian government’s budget came to a head Wednesday. The EU saying that the budget for next year is out of line breaking earlier promises to lower public debt.

The EU’s Moscovici had this to say in response: “Those who crush texts and decisions with footwear do not respect rules, institutions or democracy.”

Italy’s debt comes behind Greece and while the EU suggest that there are worries of financial turmoil in Europe.

The Italian government, known best for outspoken and strong Deputy PM Salvini says the sharp increase in spending is needed to jumpstart growth after years of uneasiness.
