4 years ago we reviewed Amateur Surgeon 3 a game which was previously an iPhone exclusive which decided to finally move on Android. It was such a great game…
Amateur Surgeon 3 also had that disgusting IAP system but back then IAP scams weren’t as prevalent as they are today. Now look and prepare to be shocked.
You need to pay a minimum of $1500 Dollars if you want to buy Amateur Surgeon 4, the full game.
Yeah you download the game from Play Store for free but what you download is basically a DEMO version of the game because in order to be able to finish the game you would need to buy all partners and upgrade them to maximum Level which is 10 and you would also need to upgrade your tools to Level 10. Doing that costs diamonds, or rubies, or however you wanna call them.
So let’s break down the costs. In order to upgrade the tools to maximum you would need to purchase 648 cards worth of at least $100.
There are 12 tools in total. Each tool requires 2 card to reach level 2, 3 cards to reach level 3, 4 cards to reach level 4 and so on, making it a total of 648 cards.
For the partners there’s even a more terrifying story. As of now you have a total of 47 partners to unlock and upgrade. You need a 2585 cards in order to enable and upgrade all partners to level 10. The math is simple.
You need 47 cards to unlock all partners to level 1
You need 94 cards to upgrade all partners to level 2
You need 141 cards to upgrade all partners to level 3
You need 188 cards to upgrade all partners to level 4
You need 235 cards to upgrade all partners to level 5
You need 282 cards to upgrade all partners to level 6
You need 329 cards to upgrade all partners to level 7
You need 376 cards to upgrade all partners to level 8
You need 423 cards to upgrade all partners to level 9
You need 470 cards to upgrade all partners to level 10, which is maximum
Add them all together and you get 2585 necessary cards.
The largest pack and also the most cost-effective pack of partner cards is worth 50 diamonds and contains only 5 cards. If you divide 2585 by 5 you get 517 packs necessary to max out everybody. Now 517 pack X 50 diamonds = 25850 diamonds! Or simply said, 1 card costs 10 diamonds. All those cards are worth at least 25850 diamonds!!!
Why are we saying “at least”? Because not every time you buy a pack of 5 cards you actually get your tool or your partner level up card. Sometimes you get a 300 coins card or a diamond card. Especially when everyone is reaching higher levels such as 6-7. It will become harder and harder to get the cards you need. So in reality you would actually need to buy even more card packs. A lot more, maybe even DOUBLE, until you finally get to upgrade everything to maximum level.
If you buy their best deal which is the 2000 Amateur Surgeon 4 diamonds for $100, you would need to buy 13 such offers to get 26000 diamonds. 13 X $100 = $1300. Remember, you need at least 25850 diamonds. Add $100 from the tools to the $1300 and you get 1400 and add another $100 for packs with diamonds and coins. This is just a minimum because in reality you may need as much as $2000 to unlock this game fully. You have to be really lucky to unlock it entirely within “only” $1500.
In order to upgrade all partners to level 10 you would need to spend at least $1300!!!!!! This is a BARE MINIMUM, just a fictive scenario, because in reality you may need as much as $2000 due to those pesky coin cards, making the amount of necessary packs even larger to max out everybody as cards are received randomly.
Needless to say is that this alone is also a process that takes at least 4-5 hours to do non-stop taps on your phone like a psycho, even if you had the money to buy all the necessary diamonds. Rare cards need double taps while limited edition and legendary cards require 3 taps to show the card. So basically you need to do thousands of taps with your fingers to for hours just to show the freaking cards. Buy, tap tap tap tap tap, tap tap tap tap tap, buy, tap tap tap tap tap, tap tap tap tap tap, buy, tap tap tap tap tap, tap tap tap tap tap, buy, tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap, for hours……
On top of that the game annoys you with “BUY NOW, SUPER SPECIAL MEGA HYPER OFFER, SPEND MORE MONEY! BUY NOW! BUY BUY!” pop up messages regardless of how many times and how much diamonds you buy, you still get those really annoying messages.
Sometimes indeed you also get diamond cards but it doesn’t really compensate anything comparing to the amount of packs you need to buy.
Yeah yeah sure, you do find a diamond from time to time when you operate patients or if you watch their video ads but the quantity is negligible, compared to the quantity you actually need.
And here’s how those game companies are scamming those naive children who take their parents credit cards, add them to Google Play Story and Apple Store then go on a spending spree, hoping to unlock these games. There have been numerous stories like this, with parents having thousands of dollars spent by their children on these games without them knowing and when they found out about the ordeal they went to the press to tell their story hoping that something would be done….
And with these scamming practices in place these days, they wonder “OY VEY ZE HORROR!!! ZE GOYIM IS DOING ZE PIRACY AGAIN! OY VEY ZE HORROR! ZEY IZ SO IVEL!” Do games costing thousands of dollars now actually makes it moral for game pirates out there who come out with ingenious hacked apps with unlimited free diamonds? Maybe… if games are meant to cost that much nowadays… but with that said we don’t support piracy both due to legal reasons and moral reasons. After all, if you don’t like it, you don’t have to play it. Or you can just download it, play for a while then uninstall when it becomes impossible to perform surgeries with low level tools and with no partners or with low level partners.
Who is to blame here? First and foremost, obviously the game developers, who come up with these prices without any kind of shame whatsoever, especially considering that these are games for CHILDREN!
Second who else is to blame but Google and Apple for allowing IAP scams on their stores. They should be opposing the IAP system entirely if they had any morals but of course they don’t because they too make a ton of money out of this.
And third, why the governments of course. Governments are so quick to punish game pirates “for infringing rights” and other bla bla nonsense but what about when game developers ask children to pay $2000 for a freaking game? Why aren’t they so quick to ban, fine and even throw behind bars such evil developers? Aren’t they infringing on our pockets? What if ALL games would cost that much? That means you would never play a game again in your life. What if ALL FOOD would cost that much? You would die of starvation…
Governments need to make laws like “product X can’t cost more than this much, product Y can’t cost more than that, etc” Not individually of course, but per categories. For example: “It is forbidden by the law for a computer game to cost more than $100 regardless of whatever reasons are given.” or it is forbidden by the law for a 1 Liter of beer to cost more than $20 regardless of whatever reasons are given.” Yes we actually think prices should be regulated by law. Whoever cannot compete in this price regulated market….. who cares???????? HAPPY BANKRUPTCY!
You’re a game developer who can’t produce games cheaper than $100? HAPPY BANKRUPTCY!
You’re a farm and you can’t produce eggs cheaper than $1 per egg? HAPPY BANKRUPTCY!
You’re a car maker and you can’t produce cars cheaper than maximum $30.000 per car? HAPPY BANKRUPTCY!
Are you a bank in trouble? HAPPY BANKRUPTCY!
Are you a shoe maker who can’t makes shoes cheaper than $400 maximum allowed per pair regardless of whatever expensive leather or whatever bla bla bla reasons you give? HAPPY BANKRUPTCY!
WE DON’T CARE! The people shouldn’t care and the governments shouldn’t care either! HAPPY F-IN BANKRUPTCY! F you and your company! Let others who are more competent and well equipped to take their place! This is how the normal world should function but unfortunately it doesn’t, only God knows how many times the US government subsidized Microsoft, Google, Ford and private banks because “if we wouldn’t have handed them some bailouts they would have failed and went bankrupt!” So on the contrary, the world functions in freaking reverse to how it should.
But do you want to know why it functions this way? Because most politicians are corrupt to the bones. When they bailout these private companies, they get their own share of millions of dollars, in bribes. Its how the world has always been. Unfortunately….
As for how pleasant the game Amateur Surgeon 4 actually is……. well it’s a good game, a lot more boring than its predecessor, Amateur Surgeon 3 but its still a fun game to play. Amateur Surgeon 4 is a mess and unfortunately Adult Swim removed Amateur Surgeon 3 from Google Play Store so now you’re stuck with Amateur Surgeon 4. They did this because Amateur Surgeon 3 wasn’t built in such a way to milk you of cash.
As an advice, don’t spend a single dollar on this game because it will still not be enough and you would need more and more in order to upgrade everything. Try to upgrade your tools with coins instead of diamonds and try to keep your diamonds only for partners. Compete in challenges and watch their video ads to raise a couple of more diamonds and you should be good for a while.
