The right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, in its recently unveiled draft election manifesto, has committed to expelling a minimum of 200,000 more migrants annually than it admits into the country. This populist party advocates for the closure of national borders, the restriction of Islamic practices, and a staunch stand against what it terms the “oligarchy.”

Outlined in their manifesto, the AfD proposes the possibility of expatriating criminal migrants under specific circumstances: firstly, in cases of serious criminal activity within ten years of naturalization; secondly, for migrants involved with terrorist organizations like ISIS; and thirdly, for those belonging to criminal clans, even if it renders them stateless. Notably, these measures apply exclusively to first-generation migrants who have acquired German citizenship after their arrival.

With current polling at around 11 percent, the AfD is anticipated to secure its first Members of Parliament in the upcoming election. Despite 4.5 million Muslims residing in Germany, the party contends that “Islam is not part of German” and asserts that the nation is losing its cultural identity due to what it perceives as a misguided concept of tolerance. Their manifesto emphasizes a desire to pass on a Germany that remains recognizable to future generations.

Founded in 2013 as a Eurosceptic group, the AfD criticizes mainstream political parties in Germany for allegedly neglecting the interests of ordinary voters. The party, under the leadership of Franke Petry and Jörg Meuthen, has representation in ten of Germany’s 16 state parliaments. While narrowly missing the five percent threshold for representation in the 2013 election, with 4.7 percent, the AfD has persistently called for an official investigation into the opening of borders that facilitated the entry of over one million migrants into Germany in 2015.
