In a statement posted to Twitter Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked President-elect Donald Trump for his remarks supporting Israel made at an impromptu New Year’s Eve press conference Saturday night.
President-elect Trump paused to speak to reporters Saturday with wife Melania by his side, image via screen grab.
Netanyahu posted his appreciation for Trump’s support of Israel writing in both Hebrew and English, “Thanks for your support, President-elect Trump!”
Netanyahu’s tweet included a brief video clip of Trump’s comments to reporters criticizing President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry for their handling of Israel.

Trump’s comments as heard on the video excerpt posted by Netanyahu:
“Look, we have to protect Israel. Israel to me is very, very important. We have to protect Israel. And I disagree with what he’s (Obama) done there. I listened to Secretary Kerry’s speech, I think it’s very unfair to Israel what happened.”
The full context of Trump’s statement (via Legal Insurrection) was in response to a question of whether he felt Obama was trying to undermine him. Trump did not answer yes or no.
REPORTER: “Do you feel like president Obama has been trying to undermine you at all in some of the last-minute actions he’s taken?”
TRUMP: “I spoke to him yesterday. He’s been very nice on the phone. We have a very good relationship. Look, we have to protect Israel. Israel to me is very, very important. We have to protect Israel. And I disagree with what he’s done there. I listened to Secretary Kerry’s speech, I think it’s very unfair to Israel what happened.”
