Across Europe, anti-EU sentiment is on the rise, as illustrated by an exclusive map revealing a widespread decline in optimism about the European Union’s future. The Eurobarometer survey, conducted by the EU itself, indicates a significant drop in optimism in all but three of the 28 member states. Notably, the negative outlook has intensified in the Netherlands and Germany, where the majority of people are now pessimistic about the EU’s future.
Greece stands out as the country with the lowest level of optimism, with only 34% expressing positivity, while a staggering 63% hold a pessimistic view. In Cyprus, fewer than four in ten (37%) hold a positive outlook, contrasting with 58% who are pessimistic. Austria also reflects a diminished optimism, with 37% expressing positivity and 56% adopting a pessimistic stance.
This palpable decline in optimism underscores the growing dissatisfaction and disillusionment with the European Union across various member states. The shift in public sentiment raises questions about the EU’s ability to address the concerns and expectations of its citizens, paving the way for increased scrutiny and debate about the organization’s future.
