US GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump has maintained his spot atop the 2016 Republican presidential field, a new poll suggests.
According to the new poll by the CBS News, the real-estate mogul leads the pack with 27 percent support, showing no changes since one month ago, when the previous edition of the survey was carried out.
Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon, followed Trump with 21 percent support, down 2% from the last poll after his recent warmongering comments against Russia.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz slotted in the third with 9 percent and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida followed him with 8 percent support. Former Florida governor Jeb Bush and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina tied both landed in fifth place with 6 percent each.
Combined together, Trump, Carson, Cruz, and Fiorina – who are all considered outsiders running on an anti-establishment platform – account for 63 percent of the votes.
84 percent of respondents to the poll believed that Trump has strong leadership characteristics, while 72 percent of them said the same about Carson, and 60 percent thought Fiorina could be the next US leader.
However, Trump was also perceived as least honest candidate, as only 53 percent of voters said they trust the businessman, compared to 81 percent who said they trust Carson and 60 percent who trust Fiorina.
The reality TV star was also the least favorable candidate among Republicans with 53 percent of respondents in the survey saying they do not think of him positively. With a 48 percent unfavorable rating, Bush became second in this category,.
The poll sampled 419 Republican primary voters via telephone between October 4 and October 8. The margin of error was 5 percent.
