Suppose a drunk driver stole a police car and got caught – would the car still be sold? What if it was the mayor’s car? The mayor’s daughter’s car? If the law applies to any citizen, it must apply to public officials as well, but in some countries, it never does. And if the law doesn’t apply to everyone, then the ones who are exempt become “royalty”, the elite few for whom laws do not matter.
