As for “espionage”, the fact that NSA wiretaps everyone in America was already revealed by AT&T employees long ago, so that was no secret.

As for harm to the US national interests, the prosecutors should look in the mirror for someone to indict. They’ve done more damage, along with Obama, CIA, NSA and Bush presidencies, than any of the worst traitors in US history. Whistleblowers are essential to maintaining liberty.

The prosecution of whistleblowers like Bradley Manning, Snowden, and others, constitutes the crime of obstructing justice, because without public knowledge of war crimes and human rights violations, public officials cannot be placed on trial.
