A recent report says that Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has come under harsh criticism over his pro-Israeli foreign policy, Press TV reports.
A freedom of information request in Canada shows that the majority of Canadian people, who wrote to Harper in December 2012, complained about his decision to oppose the Palestinian statehood in November.
About 82 percent of those who wrote to Harper expressed their opposition to the decision.
“Palestinians and First Nations are very similar in that regard… We’re seeing a very anti-First Nation agenda going on here in Canada. Well, it’s no wonder they legitimize what Israel is doing to the Palestinians,” political analyst Michelle Robinson said.
On November 29, 2012, the United Nations General Assembly voted to upgrade Palestine’s status at the UN from “non-member observer entity” to “non-member observer state.”
The 193-member assembly voted 138-9 with 41 abstentions at the UN headquarters in New York for a resolution approving the upgrade. In addition to Canada, Israel and the United States were among the ones that voted against it.
