Cars are seen covered with snow in Hartford, the US state of Connecticut, February 10, 2013.

Hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses are still without power in the northeastern parts of the United States, following a massive snowstorm that almost paralyzed the region.

The storm on Friday dumped almost one meter (about three feet) of snow. Hurricane-strength winds were also reported.

More than 219,000 clients still remain without power, with most outages reported in the state of Massachusetts.

Meanwhile, authorities have reported eleven deaths in the US and four in Canada due to the blizzard. The victims include an 11-year-old boy from Boston, who died from carbon monoxide poisoning while trying to stay warm in a running car that his father was digging out of a snow bank.

Officials estimated that hundreds of drivers were stuck or had abandoned their cars during the heavy snowfall.

On Sunday, many highways had been cleared. However, several side roads were still completely blocked with cars being covered entirely by snowdrifts.

About 5,700 flights were canceled due to the storm and airports were struggling to restore full services before Monday’s commute.
