DRONE STRIKES ON AMERICANS “LEGAL”.

Regarding the “White Paper” authorizing murder without trial, or execution on suspicion, Obama seeks to justify murder without personal responsibility for it.

The 5th amendment to the US Constitution requires “due process” before life, liberty, or property is taken by the federal government. The amendment was originally written to limit the power of the federal government. The US government has no power to murder citizens without trial. No “White Paper” or legal memo can overturn the 5th Amendment.

The Drone “Death Squad” Program is illegal even under US law, and certainly illegal under the laws of those countries in which they are deployed as well as illegal under the Geneva Convention. Civilians were to be protected under the Geneva Convention even if they were under suspicion by the occupying forces.

Reading the first few paragraphs of the story indicates the death squads are not doing much at the moment.

The National Defense Authorization Act presumes to legalize the murder of dissenting Americans who have been labelled “terrorist” by Obama.

Homeland Security has labelled military veterans, gun owners, and patriots as “potential terrorists”, and that is another part of the picture.

So a purported legal framework exists for creation of death squads but it remains to be seen whether they exist for domestic use. Death squads already exist for foreign use. We call them “Delta Force” and “Navy Seals”. But so far, they are not deployed internally against American citizens.
