At least one Palestinian has been killed and seven others injured by Israeli fire in the southern Gaza Strip despite an Egypt-mediated ceasefire.

Medical sources said a 21-year-old Palestinian lost his life on Friday as Israeli forces opened fire in the village of Khuzaa, east of Khan Yunis.

The Palestinian emergency service identified the dead man as Abdelhadi Qdeih Anwar, a farmer who wanted to check on his farm which lies adjacent to the heavily-guarded border with the occupied lands.

Reports say seven other Palestinians also suffered gunshot wounds.

“The [Israeli] occupation forces opened fire on a group of farmers,” said Gaza emergency service spokesman, Adham Abu Selmiya.

However, an Israeli military spokeswoman could not immediately confirm the deadly incident, which marks the first fatal act of violence since an Egypt-brokered ceasefire between the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas and the Tel Aviv regime took effect on Wednesday.

Over 160 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed and about 1,200 others were injured in the Israeli attacks on Gaza that were carried out during the eight-day period of November 14-21.

In retaliation, the Palestinian resistance fighters fired rockets and missiles into Israeli cities, killing at least five Israelis.
