They do so only by unknowingly buying products that contain GMOs and by purchasing animals (meat products) who have been fed GMOs. Definitely not “by popular demand”, which would suggest that people actually know what they’re getting into by buying these things. Unbelievably, some people over here still don’t even know what a GMO is or how damaging they can be, yet we’ve been consuming them for 15 years or so, just like little guinea pigs.

Polls show that most people who are aware of GMOs want them labeled, yet the governments have duly ignored us thus far (hopefully that will change soon with Prop 37 in California paving the way for all foods in all states to be labeled). We have every right to know how our food is grown and what it contains.

Most other countries give their citizens a *choice* to buy GMOs or not. That’s how it should be here. And there should be safety labels put on them, as well, since they HAVE shown to be harmful to animals. They have studies to show drinking and smoking can be harmful and those things have warning labels because of it; GMOs shouldn’t be any different.

I grow as much of my own food as possible, too, but people who see my garden think it’s wonderful rather than crazy. Thankfully, the movement toward organic, sustainable food *is* growing, and more people are waking up every day and resisting GMOs. I’d say 1/4 of the houses on my street have gardens of some size or measure. There is hope… :)

P.S. Sadly I see too many fat Americans who do not care about GMO, or corn syrups in their staple-diet. If you are “fat” please stick to natural foods/sugars like: cane-sugar.
