Beauty queens from around the world have gathered in China to compete for the coveted Miss World title. Miss China, Yu Wen Xia, 23, defeated 115 other hopefuls at Saturday’s ceremony in the Chinese city of Ordos.
This year’s Miss World saw the highest number of participants in the oldest running international beauty pageant.
Last year’s winner Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela passed her crown to music student Yu at the Dongsheng Stadium after the traditional show of evening gowns and bikinis.
This is the second time a Miss China has received the coveted title. In 2007, China’s Zhang Zilin was also crowned Miss World.
Elizaveta Golovanova, 19, represented Russia at the pageant, and according to fans’ comments on the Miss World website, was among the top 10 favorites. Bookmakers however tipped Miss Mexico, 20-year-old Mariana Reynoso, for the title. Miss China and Miss Nepal also were among the favorites.
The ceremony was held in the Inner Mongolian mining city of Ordos on the edge of the Gobi desert, one of China’s richest regions.
This year was China’s fifth time hosting Miss World. The last time China welcomed beauty queens was in 2010, on the southern island of Hainan.
The Miss World beauty pageant has been held since 1951. Around a billion people worldwide watch the competition’s annual broadcasts.

I hope westernization and capitalism don’t drive those Chinese girls gay. It will, though. it seems to be the trend these days. AOL and Yahoo both have massive gay agendas. I hope Chinese people can find more honest internet service providers.
