Hundreds of protesters have taken to the streets in the Australian city of Sydney to voice their support for the government of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, Press TV reports.

Marching through Sydney’s central business district on Sunday, the demonstrators called for no intervention by foreign powers in the Arab state’s internal affairs.

They held banners which read, “Let the whole world hear, Syria is our nation, Bashar is our leader,” and thanked Russia and China for their support for Damascus in the international arena.

“…It is very clear that America, Qatar, Saudi Arabia have plotted a foreign intervention to stuff up our country [Syria]. Thousands of innocent people are dying every single day to take out [President] Bashar and it’s just a joke and we are sick of it and we want an end to this right now,” one protester told Press TV correspondent.

“And also we don’t want another Libya…we’ve had enough. This is our country Syria, let the people decide what Syria wants,” said another protester.

The demonstrators further condemned Western media for distorting the reality on the ground in Syria and for being biased in favor of insurgents in Damascus.

The protest comes while earlier in the day dozens of insurgents were killed or injured in an explosion at an arms depot in the western Syrian city of Homs.

The Syrian government forces have also arrested a large number of insurgents in the northwestern city of Aleppo since late Saturday.

Insurgents carried out a mortar attack near a hospital in Damascus on Saturday, killing at least one civilian and injuring more than 10 other people.

The Syrian forces have killed a large number of terrorists in clashes between government troops and insurgents across the country over the past few days.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.

Damascus says ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists’ are behind the unrest while the West and the opposition accuse the security forces of killing protesters.

One Response to " Hundreds of Australians rally in support of al-Assad "

  1. The only reason protesters can support Assadd in Australia is that we are truly a free country – And for the protestors I say “Don’t abuse our freedoms to bring your point to the world. Make your point and move on, we have other issues to deal with in our land so be fair with the time you take on the political stage”.
