For example, during the Watts Riots, the commanding general of the California National Guard told the troops that the leaders and instigators of the riots were communists.

Troops were given the impression that the riots were sponsored by Soviet agents, and that made it a little easier to see black Americans as the enemy.

Whether any of that was true or not, most soldiers went along with the program believing what they were told. There is always a cover story to try to justify an otherwise outrageously illegal use of power.

What soldiers need to remember is that they signed up to repel foreign invaders, not their fellow Americans.

This is really naive statement, Kathie. EVERYBODY joins military for money! It does not matter if it is American or foreigner! It is a job. And do not forget very important thing: A soldier must obey orders, if not, they can be killed. You should also keep in your mind that most of military guys are on drugs and they do not care what they are doing to other people.

The Bond decision recognizes that private individuals have standing to assert a state’s rights cause of action against the federal government regardless of whether that state is a party to the lawsuit if the individual is actually harmed from federal violation of that state’s rights.

What this case does is provide a green light to individuals enforcing their civil rights against federal oppression if their state fails to protect them.

One example is federal abuse of the Commerce Clause to regulate purely intrastate commerce, rather than commerce between states as it was originally intended.

Federal gun regulation where the guns never leave the state of manufacture could not materially affect interstate commerce and should not be subject to federal regulation of any kind.

Any affected state could challenge federal abuse by citing the 10th Amendment in court action, but they seldom bother, so any affected citizen would now have standing to sue and assert violation of state’s rights when his personal rights have been compromised by federal action.
