Congress enacted the tax cuts in 2001 and 2003 under President Bush. They expired at the end of 2010. They were extended until Jan 1, 2013.

SO if the tax cuts expire, we will just go back to the previous tax rates. Hardly an armageddon. And it will affect most those that earn $250,000 plus a year.
